Throughout 2009, the Jefferson Rehabilitation Center continued to make significant advances in its promotion and support of Self-Advocacy.  Following the 2008 hiring of David Liscomb as the agency’s Self-Advocacy advisor, in 2009 the JRC provided Mr. Liscomb a larger office at the Annex.  Mr. Liscomb now has a new computer with adaptive programs that enhances his ability to communicate and complete his tasks.

The North Country Self-Advocates had a successful year.  One of their members, Heather Romanek, was appointed to the Sunmount DDSO Self-Advocacy Team.  Thanks to the tremendous support of the JRC, a group of 28 individuals attended the Annual Regional Conference in Tupper Lake in July, and a group of seven individuals and two staff were able to attend the Statewide Conference in Albany this year.

The Jefferson Rehabilitation Center has earned statewide recognition as a leader in its support of Self-Advocacy, and Self-Advocacy is enriching the lives of the people we serve.
